Microsoft has unveiled the new Surface Pro 9, a new tablet that
retains the traditional design as its predecessor but with new internals and
the choice of the ARM processor or the more powerful 12th Gen Intel silicon.
Similar to the Surface Pro 8, the Surface Pro 9 has a unibody made
with aluminum, a 13-inch screen (3:2 aspect ratio), and a 120Hz refresh rate.
You have the choice of an Intel 12th Gen Core i7 or i5 processor, and this
time, you can also get the tablet with a Microsoft SQ3 processor powered by
Qualcomm Snapdragon. In addition, depending on the model, the Surface Pro 9
comes with up to 32GB of DDR5 memory, up to 1TB of replaceable storage, and 5G
connectivity.
As for performance, the company claims up to 50
percent more performance from the Intel model than the Surface Pro 8, and the
two Thunderbolt 4 ports provide super-faster data transfer and the ability to
drive two 4K external monitors or use external GPUs. Also, you can get up to
15.5 hours of battery life and up to 19 hours with the ARM-based model.
Color options for
the Pro 9 include Platinum, Graphite, Sapphire, and Forest, but the color
availability will depend on the model you choose. Of course, the
detachable keyboard and Slim Pen are sold separately.
Also, as part of the 10-year anniversary of
Surface, Microsoft is partnering with London-based global design house
“Liberty” to offer a special-edition Surface Pro keyboard and laser-etched
Surface Pro 9 with an exclusive pattern in a vibrant blue floral inspired by
the Windows 11 Bloom wallpaper.
The Surface Pro 9 pricing starts at $1000 and can go up
to $2600 for the Intel Core i7 model. The ARM-based model starts at $1300 and
can go up to $1900 with a maxed-out configuration. The tablet is available

Does Oracle Database have more than one edition? Yes, I know it has been
like this for many years, but I think it is worth pointing this out again. When
looking at the Oracle Database - there are actually a few options available to
you. Some might not actually know this, as the only option they might be
presented with by default could be Oracle Enterprise Edition (EE). Don’t get me
wrong, it is an amazing solution with a plethora of options. But it does in
fact, as I always say, have a little brother – Oracle Standard Edition 2, which
actually is worth looking at. It might not have all the features - or bells and
whistles as some say; but it is feature-rich and at the core still, an amazing
database edition which if you look closely, it could be the right fit for you.
Oracle
Database Standard Edition 2 (SE2) can be licensed and used on servers with a
maximum capacity of 2 CPU sockets. There is no limit to the number of cores. It
is important to note though that Oracle Database Standard Edition 2
automatically limits the maximum number of CPU threads to 16 at any one time.
To some, this might be seen as a limitation, but for most this should be more
than sufficient to run workloads - especially if later faster CPU models are
used. One important thing when the initial version of Standard Edition 2 was
released was that it came bundled with Oracle Real Application Clusters (RAC).
This unfortunately has changed since Oracle released the 19c update. As of 19c,
Oracle Standard Edition 2 does not include the Oracle RAC option, which was a
big shock to most of us. However, since the release of SE2 and the limitations
on 16 threads using Oracle RAC with SE2 became a less attractive option, many
new installations of Oracle SE2 tend to be more single instance than Oracle RAC.
Plenty of companies that still had the Oracle Standard Edition (SE) option
(usually running 11.2.0.4 database patched version) which allowed up to 4 CPU
sockets with no thread limitation, started looking at keeping this more long
term. Short term this might seem like a good plan while you review the options
going forward. It is recommended to make sure you have a support agreement in
place - and always keep an eye on this Oracle support note: Release Schedule of
Current Database Releases (Doc ID 742060.1).

Microsoft Windows Server 2022 Standard - 16 Core
License + 10 CALs. *Microsoft requires a minimum of 16-cores per
server and at least 8-cores per processor.
Windows Server CALs (Client Access Licenses) grant a client
device or user the right to access and use Windows Server. CALs are required in addition to the server license for
each client device or user directly or indirectly accessing the Windows Server

A Windows Server Client Access License (CAL) is a license that gives
a user or device the right to access services, such as printing or access to a
file share, from a server running the Windows Server operating system (OS).
Use the following steps to generate a per User CALs
report:

In Remote
Desktop Licensing Manager right-click the license server, click Create Report,
and then click CAL Usage.

The report
is created and a message appears to confirm that the report was successfully
created. Click OK to close the message.
With user CALs, each user can
connect to the server software from any number of devices. The devices are not counted, but only a set number of users
can connect. Per-device mode operates in much the same way, but limits the
number of devices which can connect, rather than the number of users.
